How to Block Adult and Phishing sites Using OpenDNS

There are loads of tools out there to block adult and phishing sites - here's how to secure your entire home network for free in under two minutes using OpenDNS.

Note that this won't if you use a VPN. If you don't know what a VPN is then you probably aren't using one.

1. Put your router's IP address (usually 192.168.1.1) in the address bar of your internet browser.

2. Log in with your admin account and password. This is usually different to your WiFi password.

3. Look for your DNS settings and take note of them in case you ever need to revert back.

4. Change the DNS settings to manual and enter the OpenDNS IP addresses, 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

5. To test if it worked load up the site InternetBadGuys.com and if OpenDNS has been configured correctly you should see the message This site is blocked due to a phishing threat.

Job done. Your home network is now a bit safer thanks to the folk at OpenDNS 🙂
